Job Evaluation

A well-written, accurate job description is foundational to several HR fundamentals – e.g., recruiting & hiring, performance monitoring & evaluation, and compensation – but it only captures position responsibilities. It needs the check-and-balance of documenting actual job activities over time to ensure it accurately describes the position, and that expectations are reasonable. And documenting job procedures is time-consuming, but invaluable if there's no previous incumbent to train a new employee.
