What's an HR Kit?

ConnectsUs Microsoft® Word® and Excel® HR templates are written, designed & organized into families of documents - each focusing on an HR topic - so they connect to each other and make sense as a grouping.  Each family of documents is accompanied by step-by-step assembly instructions so you can set up an end-to-end process for your staff for a specific HR function.

They're called HR Kits - and there's 22 of them.

Templates used in a kit are the same ones you download one-by-one to create stand-alone documents, but the kit pulls them all together so you don't have to guess which ones to use, what order to customize them in, or how to use them together to create HR processes for e.g., the Interviewing function.  Show me

What's wrong with implementing single documents?

Let's say you're a manager or employee (or even a new member of HR), and you're ready to begin interviewing candidates. If resources for interviewing are available, you're often pointed to your company's public HR folder to find the resources you need. Like this.

Public HR Recruiting Folder

This type of folder-view doesn't answer the questions your staff will ultimately be asking about your interviewing process. Here's just a handful of them:

  • Who does what?  When? And how?
    • Who reviews the applications?
    • Who shortlists the applicants?
    • Who does preliminary telephone screens?
    • Who schedules the candidates and the interview panel?
    • How many interviews are conducted?
    • Who's included in the interview panels?
    • How do we keep track of applicants?
    • Who sends the regrets?
  • Is there a form for that?   Where is it?   Is it the latest version?   How do I fill it out?  Then what do I do with it?
  • I've never interviewed before. What type of questions are off limits?  Are there any how-to guides for interviewing?

The Kit's Process Guide - the mothership document

Most kits include a step-by-step Process Guide for Staff template that's 100% customizable.  It's the mothership document in a kit.

The Process Guide ties the Kit's family of documents together to document your company's standardized process for an HR function so staff understand the steps, roles and responsibilities and resources needed to complete each step.

Process Guide Features

Here's the Process Guide for Interviewing.  It begins with a table of contents for quick access to each step.

  • It's pre-written in Microsoft Word and includes a comprehensive menu of steps and best practices involved in the interviewing process. Customize it for your company - use all of it, some of it, or add to it. It's up to you.
  • The Process Guide answers all the questions your staff may have about interviewing.
  • It provides detailed sequential steps for how interviewing is done in your company. Show me
  • It tells them who does what. Show me
  • It links to the resources they need.
    • When interviewing begins, it's the first document your staff will access.
    • Notice the document names in blue throughout the process guide?  Show me  Those hyperlinks provide your managers and staff with instant access to the forms and resources they need directly from the Process Guide as they're reading the instructions.  No more searching for related documents in HR folders.
    • (To set this up, you simply hyperlink to the documents from the process guide. Hyperlinking is a simple Microsoft Word function.  We show you how.)

What's in each Kit?

  1. Before you assemble your first kit, you have an option to download a set a pre-assembled file folders for saving your documents.  Show me
  2. A family of related HR documents and templates created in Word or Excel, that may include:  process guides, how-to-guides for Managers, spreadsheets, forms, letters, checklists, scripts. Show me
  3. 5-Step Kit assembly instructions, written in plain English and full of no-nonsense tips and advice
  4. Instructions for setting up best practices for an HR topic, such as creating your website Career section

The Employee Handbook/Manual Kit

The Employee Handbook Kit is a bit different than the others. It includes only 2 templates per province, but it's the most comprehensive ConnectsUs HR kit.

Putting together your policies and procedures, particularly if you're going to launch a complete and comprehensive Employee Manual is like taking on a small project. The Kit takes you through all the steps and best practices for creating your policies and procedures in your province. From legislation to common law. From planning to launching your project.  Show me

The kit also provides topic help for each topic/policy in the Handbook templates.
