November 1, 2018 - Data breach reporting required for private sector organisations governed by the PIPEDA

The new regulations will require private organisations governed by the PIPEDA to notify affected individuals and report to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada about privacy breaches. It also includes a record keeping requirement on privacy breaches.

October 25, 2018 - Amendment to the Canada Labour Code - Bill C-65 receives Royal Assent

Addresses harrassment and violence (including sexual harassment and sexual violence) in federal-regulated workplaces.

October 17, 2018 - Cannabis Legalisation and Regulation (Bill C-45)

Recreational cannabis was legalised by the Federal Government. Provinces and territories are responsible for determining how cannabis is distributed and sold within their jurisdiction. 

Language and terminology in the employee handbook, HR | Orientation Manuals, and Terms and Definitions addendums were modified to accomodate the term "impairment".
