Federal

Ottawa mandates vaccines for all federally regulated workplaces

It was announced on December 7, 2021 that the government of Canada will propose regulations under Part II of the Canada Labour Code to make vaccination mandatory in federally regulated workplaces.

The government will also develop resources to help federally regulated workplaces implement the COVID-19 vaccination requirements in consultation with their workplace health and safety committees or representatives.

Ontario

Ontario extends COVID-19 paid sick leave

The Ontario government has announced an extension to their Worker Income Protection Benefit program – providing COVID-19 sick days – until July 21, 2022.

With this extension, employees can continue to access this paid leave to get tested, vaccinated, self-isolate, or care for a family member. Should the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit be extended, workers in Ontario have access to the most generous paid sick days program in Canada.

Alberta

Restrictions Exemption Programs financial support available

The Restrictions Exemption Program allows businesses to operate without most public health restrictions if they require patrons aged 12 and older to provide proof of vaccination or negative test result.

Financial support is now available to help offset costs of implementing the program:

  • The Restrictions Exemption Program Implementation Grant provides a one-time payment to eligible businesses, cooperatives and non-profit organizations that choose to implement the Restrictions Exemption Program.
  • Free online safety training is also available to provide workers with information and resources they need to keep themselves and customers safe while implementing COVID-19 safety requirements.

The B.C. Provincial Health Officer released the following orders on December 3, 2021.
