Word Terminology
ConnectsUs uses the same terminology as Microsoft® to describe Word® tools and functionality.
Clipboard |
Function that allows you to copy text and images from one Microsoft Office® document and paste it into another. |
character formatting |
The attributes that determine the way in which text is presented. Character attributes include font, size, color, and effects such as bold, italic, and underline. |
cursor/insertion point |
The point in a document where the next character or space is entered. |
footer |
Text that displays at the bottom of every page of a document. Often contains the page number. |
header |
Text that displays at the top of every page of a document. Often contains the document title. |
heading |
Headings are used to break up and organize information inside a document. A heading is typically a word or short phrase that summarizes the information that sits beneath it. Headings make it easier for the reader to scan, read, and digest the content of the document. |
indentation |
The distance between the first character of a line of text and the page margin. |
paragraph formatting |
The attributes that determine the way in which a paragraph is presented in a document. Attributes include before spacing and after spacing, indentation, alignment, and line spacing. |
Ribbon |
The horizontal menu bar that displays across the top of the workspace in Microsoft Office products. The Ribbon contains multiple tabs (File, Home, Insert, etc.) each of which provides context-sensitive commands used for working with the open document. |
styles/text styles |
Defined sets of attributes used to format text in s consistent manner. Word includes predefined styles, which are editable. You can also create your own custom style sets. |
