The coronavirus pandemic is shutting down industrial activity and temporarily slashing air pollution levels around the world. One expert said the sudden shift represented the “largest scale experiment ever” in terms of the reduction of industrial emissions.

Clearer Waters in Venice

One small silver lining has been reported in Venice. Locals have noticed how clear the water appears, most likely due to the lack of motor boats and general crowds and pollution. These clearer waters have even led to swans, fish and more wildlife appearing in the canals.

Alcohol Brands Making Hand Sanitizer

Several beer and spirit brands have started using the alcohol content in their products to make hand sanitizer instead. Some local breweries, like the Troubled Monk in Red Deer have started making and selling hand sanitizer to supply the needed product.

Free Roaming For Penguins
When the crowds are away, the penguins will play! The Shedd Aquarium in Chicago had to close due to coronavirus concerns, but it isn't all bad news- no visitors meant the penguins were able to roam free and visit other animals.
